Restaurants Cape Verde

There is a large choice of different cuisines in Cape Verde. For lovers of fish Cape Verde is quite a paradise. Every day the fresh fish are caught and cooked. From delicious grilled lobster to fresh tuna. You should try them! On the islands with the most amenities for travelers such as Sal and Boavista most of the restaurants can be found. Alone on the island of Sal, there are more than 50 restaurants, from the traditional Cape Verdean cuisine to Chinese. The price level is on average lower than in the Netherlands and Belgium, and for every budget there is a suitable restaurant.

We have below some great restaurants for you which stand out for their cuisine and charm.

  • Boavista – Nadia
    Owner Donna Nadia is a household name on the island. It is one of the oldest restaurants in Sal Rei, located on the north side of the square. Different kind of food is served, reservations are recommended due to the enthusiasm of visitors to eat here. Price level: budget / average.
  • Boavista – Bar Bahia
    Situated on a beautiful location at the end of Estoril Beach. A lovely place to enjoy one of the fish- or pasta dishes. Ask in advance for the menu of the day, these are often highly recommended. Price level: budget / average.
  • Sal – O Farolim
    The location of this restaurant is great. The restaurant is leaning over the sea and it has a world view for a romantic dinner. It is part of the hotel Odjo d’Agua but is open to guests from outside the hotel. Price level: average.
  • Sal – Compad
    Compad is a favorite restaurant of the locals of Santa Maria. Here you will find the authentic Cape Verdean cuisine. Especially try the national dish Cachupa. Great food, great service and all at very reasonable prices. Price level: budget.
  • Santiago – Quintal da Musica (Praia, on the plateau)
    A classic evening to spend in Praia. Live music on stage and great food make it a beloved restaurant. This restaurant was founded by the well known local musician Mario Lucio and he promotes this concept with the traditional music. Price level: average.
  • Santiago – Sofia Cyber (Praia, on the plateau)
    In Sofia you can both indoor and outdoor dine on the terrace. See the passing street life while enjoying a drink. The menu is fairly extensive. This place is also known to play a chess game. This brings a casual and comfortable atmosphere along with it. Price level: average.
  • Maio – Wolf Djarmar
    In the center of town (near the church), this restaurant is situated with a shaded outdoor terrace. Here you can eat dishes from Creole cuisine food to which a small European twist is given. In the summer live music is played in the background. Price level: average.
  • Maio – Tropical
    A great place right on the beach. Eat a snack and enjoy the magnificent sea views. The dishes are simple like homemade pizza and burgers. Fresh fruit cocktails are a must. Price level: above average.
  • Fogo – Pipi’s
    Tasty Senegalese food can be found at Pipi’s located next to Hotel Savana. From delicious grilled chicken to cocktails. The restaurant / bar has an outdoor patio and live music is regularly played. Price level: average.
  • Fogo – Churrasqueira
    Specialty of this restaurant are the stews and especially the courses typical for Fogo Djagacida. You must try the delicious fresh fish. Price level: budget / average.
  • Brava – O CasteloRestaurant
    O Castelo is a Cape Verdean oriented kitchen. The food is freshly prepared and you can enjoy both outdoor and indoor dining. Price level: budget.
  • Brava – Por do Sol
    You should not miss this restaurant. On the main square in Vila Nova Sintra, this restaurant is located in a beautiful old building in the color blue (Casa Menza). The menu is diverse from both fresh fish to meat. Price level: average.
  • Sao Vicente – Cordel
    One of the better restaurants and according to the local newspaper Atlantico’s best restaurant in 2012 in Cape Verde. Situated just outside the city of Mindelo on a hill (a taxi recommended) serves both fish and meat dishes. A specialty is the lobster. Do you want to dine here at the weekend, then booking in advance is advisable. Price level: above average.
  • Sao Vicente – Archote
    A popular place for locals to eat. At Archote there is in high season almost every evening live music and the food is fine. A good place to dine among the Cape Verdeans. Price level: average.
  • Santo Antao – Cantinho de Amizade
    The protected and shaded patio is a lovely place to enjoy your evening. Catinho de Amizade is a well-known local restaurant and it offers a menu with fish and many fruit dishes, pastas and salads. Price level: budget.
  • Santo Antao – Vony
    You can eat delicious fresh fish straight from the sea at Vony. This small restaurant is very nice and has good food. Price level: average.
  • Sao Nicolau – Pasta Alice
    Dishes from local cuisine are served at Pasta Alice. By many this restaurant is designated as one of the better of the town Tarrafel. Price level: budget / average.
  • Sao Nicolau – Dalila Bella Sombre
    Here you can try the local specialties of Cape Verde. For example, the Cachupa (stew) and Xerem (corn with various accompaniments). Price level: budget.
