Cape Verde has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. According to the respected publisher of the Lonely Planet travel guide Cape Verde belongs to the top 10 best travel destinations for beaches and small islands. The long beaches – sometimes snow-white colored – the beautiful turquoise sea and the cooling sea breeze is a paradise for beach and sea lovers. An additional advantage is the pleasant sea temperature. Many beaches are very large. Especially on Sal and Boavista you can often enjoy this without you meeting someone. We have selected for you our personal best five beaches on Cape Verde. Each beach with its own unique characteristics and beauty.
1. Sal – Santa Maria
One of the best beaches on Cape Verde is Santa Maria on the popular island of Sal. The fine white sand and azure clear water make you actually realize that you are on a tropical island. The beach is wide and no less than three kilometers long. In combination with the amenities located nearby such as restaurants it is an ideal place to relax.

2. Boavista – Chaves
Beautiful beaches can be found on the coast of Boavista. Here lies approximately 10 kilometers of fine sandy beach. This beautiful beach is ideal to enjoy the peace of the area. From this point you have a wonderful view of the emerald green sea, the mountains of Santo Antonio and the town of Sal Rei.

3. Boavista – Curralinho, Varandinha, Curral Velho and Santa Monica
These beaches on Boavista are ideal for water sports such as diving, snorkeling, surfing and sailing. Also you can just enjoy the sun and swim in the turquoise sea. The very white sands of Curralinho is with 18 kilometers the longest beach in Cape Verde. For lovers of views and beaches it is a must.

4. Maio – Santana
The crescent shaped beach of Santana in northwestern Maio is desert like. Maio is dwarfed by the big brothers Sal and Boavista, but the beaches are just as beautiful. The pureness of this forgotten island makes it even more striking. Maio has a large population of nesting Caretta caretta turtles. If you visit this beach at the right time of the year, you can encounter them.

5. Fogo – Sao Filipe
Gorgeous black volcanic sand beach can be found on Fogo, the island with the highest volcano in Cape Verde. It is believed that the volcanic sand has a healing effect by the high concentration of jodium and titanium. Below the cliffs of the town of Sao Filipe is the long stretched black sandy beach. The reflection of the sun in the water and great horizon make this a place to be seen. Swimming is minimized by the strong current. Ask the locals where you exactly can do this.
