Boavista Ultra Trail Marathon

For the runners who like a challenge, there is the Boavista Ultra Trail. This trail marathon on the island of Boavista is an unforgettable experience and takes you along beautiful unspoilt nature. Dirt roads turn into desert dunes. And in the Viana desert, chances are that you will pass green oases. You can do the trail marathon without help. The event takes place annually and participants come from various countries of the world.

Distances marathon

As a long distance runner you can choose from the following three distances:

1. Boavista Ultra Trail Marathon – 150 kilometers within at least 40 hours. Reaching the finish is a victory. The Boavista ultra marathon mainly runs around the island and covers 1,300 meters of altitude. The Ultra marathon has existed since 2001 and is the ultimate challenge.

2. Boavista Salt Marathon – 75 kilometers within at least 16 hours. The finish of this trail marathon is breathtakingly beautiful and is located on one of the last remaining salt pans of Boavista. During this trail marathon you will cover approximately 500 altimeters.

3. Boavista Eco Marathon – 42 kilometers within at least 10 hours. If you are not yet a very experienced ultra runner, then this distance is certainly a good alternative. During this marathon you cover about 400 altimeters and the route takes you through untouched nature.

Earn points for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc

For many long-distance runners / trailers, the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) event is the ultimate dream. This run is almost 171 kilometers long and you cover 10,300 vertical meters. And that within a maximum of 46 hours. In order to register for the UTMB you must have sufficient points, because there can be about 2,000 participants annually. Completing the Boavista Ultra Trail makes you earn points for the UTMB, namely 4 ITRA points for the Boavista Ultra Trail Marathon (150 kilometers) and 2 ITRA points for the Boavista Salt Marathon (75 kilometers).

You walk freely through nature during this trail. For safety, there are various rules that you must comply with (read these carefully). For example, a backpack is necessary and obligatory, amongst others for carrying food, extra clothing and lighting. The contents of the backpack are checked at the start. The Boavista Ultra Trail is organized by the Boa Vista Marathon Club. You can find more information about this event and register via the website Boavistaultratrail.com.
